Game Day Preparation

The game day preparation technique recommended by RCPGA professionals consists of a gentle stretch, then a session on the range for a slow warm up working from easy swigs to more vigorous ones. Premium beer is highly recommended.
A progression from lofted clubs to longer shots later in the session. Next is a few chips and putts prior to going to the tee with a fresh beverage.

Game Techniques

Making a relevant practice swing just prior to playing the shot is an important step. The easiest way to do this is stand out 2 paces behind the ball face on to the target, then create the correct length back swing consciously that encourages a positive through swing to a balanced finish.

Then approach the ball, checking alignment and setting correctly to the ball and target line.

The practice swing will become a feel that should be applied immediately to the ball lest your beverage warm up.

Pre shot analysis of hole direction is a key game technique

Post Round Analysis

A post round analysis is a great way of having an objective look at the way in which you are making your scores. Aspects to look at are:
  • Are you hitting enough fairways? (or any for that matter)
  • Hitting enough greens in regulation? (do you remember where any of the greens were)
  • How many 3 putts? (higher putting count provides a great opportunity to enjoy your beverage)
